It was a remarkable show of unity by building owners involving 6 million LED lights strung on approximately 8 miles of light bars that are mounted on some of the city&#8217;s most prominent buildings.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><span style=\"font-family: arial black, sans-serif;\">READ NEXT<\/span> <a href=\"https:\/\/dallasinnovates.com\/dallas-innovates-celebrates-launch\/\">Dallas Innovates Celebrates Launch<\/a><\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p>It was a beautiful display for downtown Dallas, which was voted the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/picture-gallery\/travel\/2014\/08\/25\/10best-readers-choice-best-international-skyline\/14552949\/\">best skyline<\/a> in the world by readers of USA Today in 2015.<\/p>\n<p>Each building matched a predetermined \u201cRGB\u201d color provided by Dallas Innovates, and each hit the switch at about 6:20 p.m. The purple lights even reflected beautifully off buildings that don&#8217;t have their own lighting, enhancing the effect.<\/p>\n<p>Among the buildings bathed in purple were Reunion Tower, Bank of America Plaza, the Hunt Consolidated headquarters building, the Omni Dallas Hotel, 17Seventeen McKinney, One Arts Plaza, and KPMG Plaza,<\/p>\n<p>Such displays don\u2019t happen without a lot of forethought. Here\u2019s a look at some of the buildings that made themselves purple:<\/p>\n<h2>Bank of America Plaza<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_3809\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3809\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/dallasinnovates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/BOA_plaza_MNS2610.jpg\" alt=\"Bank of America Plaza, Photo by Michael Samples\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3809\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Bank of America Plaza, Photo by Michael Samples<\/p><\/div>\n<p>At 72 stories, it&#8217;s the tallest building in downtown Dallas. You usually know it for its green lighting theme, but Chief Operating Engineer Billy Rowland, was one <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bankofamerica-plaza.com\">of the first to jump on board<\/a> to go purple. \u201cWe want to support Dallas as a community; with the other buildings participating, we felt we should give consideration to adding what we could to the program,\u201d he said. Bank of America Plaza installed its new LED system in 2013, replacing the iconic green argon lights that had shone for years. It was all part of a $15 million renovation of the building. The building gets between 50 and 75 requests a year to use its lights to support community and charitable causes.<\/p>\n<h2>Reunion Tower \u201cThe Ball\u201d<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_3804\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3804\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/dallasinnovates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/ReunionTower_MNS2616.jpg\" alt=\"Reunion Tower, photo by Michael Samples\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3804\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Reunion Tower, photo by Michael Samples<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Operating since 1978, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.reuniontower.com\">light shows displayed on Reunion Tower<\/a> are operated by a\u00a0team of employees and contractors. There are 259 individual aluminum-and-glass, domed fixtures on the exterior structure of the Tower, offering a 360 degree angle\u00a0of The Ball.\u00a0\u00a0In addition to adding to the purple skyline, Reunion Tower once honored the victims of the terror attacks in Paris by displaying the French Flag. \u201cWhile the city benefits from the light shows, it is a big effort on the part of those working with buildings and we applaud their efforts to bring attention to worthy causes in Dallas,\u201d said Chris Kleinert, Co-CEO of\u00a0Hunt Consolidated Inc., which owns the tower, which rises roughly 561 feet above the ground. The ball\u2019s old incandescent light bulbs were replaced by LED in 2011.<\/p>\n<h2>Hunt Consolidated headquarters<\/h2>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/dallasinnovates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Hunt_Purple-165x300.jpg\" alt=\"Hunt_Purple\" width=\"165\" height=\"300\" \/>The light show displayed at Hunt corporate headquarters is the collaboration of Hunt employees. \u201cThe building\u2019s exterior sail is lined in 1,604 individual fixtures. Each fixture contains 32 LED Lights. Each LED has its own individual IP address for show programming,\u201d according to the company. The lights are controlled by a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huntconsolidated.com\">central computer system and can produce<\/a> more than 16,700 colors.\u00a0 \u201cWe are big fans of innovation and entrepreneurship. Doing the light show helped us, in our own way highlight Dallas Innovates to our social media base and hopefully increased curiosity about the initiative,\u201d Kleinert\u00a0said.<\/p>\n<h2>Omni Dallas Hotel<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_3803\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3803\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/dallasinnovates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/Omni_MNS2623.jpg\" alt=\"Omni Hotel, Photo by Michael Samples\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3803\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Omni Hotel, Photo by Michael Samples<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Ed Netzhammer, regional vice president of Omni Hotels, was eager <a href=\"http:\/\/www.omnihotels.com\/hotels\/dallas\">for the Omni Dallas Hotel<\/a> to collaborate in creating the purple skyline. The hotel\u2019s lights are separated in 3-foot sections, wrapping each floor which is about 9 feet apart; laying them end to end would create nearly 4 miles of lights. They are controlled<a href=\"http:\/\/res.dallasnews.com\/interactives\/behind_closed_doors\/omni-lights\/\"> from a small room housing computers<\/a> in the heart of the hotel. The platform gave a powerful contribution to the collaborative effort that made the purple stand out. \u201cWe love the Dallas skyline and what the Omni and the city have added to it.\u201d Netzhammer said.<\/p>\n<h2>KPMG Plaza Tower<\/h2>\n<div id=\"attachment_3805\" style=\"width: 310px\" class=\"wp-caption alignleft\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-3805\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/dallasinnovates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/KMPGHallArts_MNS2627.jpg\" alt=\"KPMG Plaza Purle Skyline\" width=\"300\" height=\"300\" \/><p id=\"caption-attachment-3805\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">KPMG Plaza at HALL Arts, Photo by Michael Samples<\/p><\/div>\n<p>This 18-story, 500,000-square-foot office building <a href=\"http:\/\/kmpg plaza\">was developed by the Hall Group<\/a>, and is one of the newest additions to the Dallas skyline. While the building is well known for the artwork adorning its lobby, the structure\u2019s exterior also is becoming known for its use of lighting, which includes motion picture displays, including old black-and-white movie classics.<\/p>\n<h2>17Seventeen McKinney<\/h2>\n<div style=\"width: 175px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/dallasinnovates.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/03\/17Seventeen_Granite_Purple-165x300.jpg\" alt=\"17Seventeen_Granite_Purple\" width=\"165\" height=\"300\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">17Seventeen McKinney in Uptown<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Owned by Granite Properties, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.graniteprop.com\/properties\/property_detail\/?bn=47801\">19-story Class AA office building<\/a> has a 22-story LED illuminated light panel. It was designed by the architecture firm of Good Fulton &amp; Farrell and is in close proximity to Klyde Warren Park. The building was completed in 2010 and was awarded LEED Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council.<\/p>\n<h2>One Arts Plaza<\/h2>\n<p>Developed by Billingsley Co., this 24-story tower sits on Routh Street in the Arts District of downtown Dallas. According <a href=\"http:\/\/www.oneartsplaza.com\">to the One Arts website<\/a>, the lighting consultant for the building was Scott Oldner Lighting.
