At the Global Mission Summit on Oct. 8–10, leaders and innovators are rethinking business—where purpose is infrastructure, profit fuels impact, and legacy means leaving more than returns behind. Behind it are investor Michael Moe and Dallas developer Mike Hoque, and their newly formed Global Mission Institute.
Along with the foundation’s investment of $60 million late last year to the Dallas County Promise, the grants collectively represent one of the largest philanthropic investments ever to grow postsecondary success in the region.
Half the funding came from the Department of Labor, with the other $500K coming from the Department of Education. The innovative teacher residency apprenticeship program is designed to help solve teacher shortages by building a steady pipeline of well-trained teachers. Open to students enrolled in Dallas College’s bachelor’s degree in education program, it allows educators of tomorrow to begin earning while still training.
After 16 years of executive and strategic leadership at Dallas College, Dr. Lonon is taking the helm as the eighth chancellor of one of the largest community colleges in the U.S. On its seven campuses across Dallas County, 125,000 students pursue 300+ degrees each year, with an economic impact of $204 million in payroll and operations spending.
With workforce and upskilling demands at new heights in North Texas, he's positioned to play a key role in the region.
